Was that winter?

After an incredibly mild winter, are the recent snows the first and last of our winter 2006/07 or is there more around the corner.

With the mercury heading back towards two digits and the snow storms of last week becoming a soggy memory, the question is whether we can possibly have got away that lightly.

Unless I blinked, winter 2006/07 produced absolutely no snow in the 2006 bit. And only two spells of snow, so far, in the 2007 bit.

The most recent, last week, was not substantial. But the timing conspired to cause chaos. We set off at 8 am for our daily commute. More than an hour later, we were still only a few miles from Kintore.

Looking at two solid lines of tail-lights snaking up the Tyrebagger into Aberdeen, we turned back to Kintore to re-trench for the next onslaught. Amazingly the solid traffic tailed back to the Broomhill roundabout.

Now the snowdrops are out it is tempting to think it is springtime.

But, remember the number of times you have thought that in the past, only to find yourself up to your oxters in snow during March or April. Don't put away those snow boots yet!
