Clydesdale Bank ATM fiasco - the truth?

How long would the Clydesdale Bank give you to pay its bills before it slapped on interest and default charges?

As Gordon MP Malcolm Bruce (who has promised to take the matter up with the Clydesdale Bank) suggested they could take a leaf out of their own book. "... have they never heard of a direct debit?," the P&J quotes him as saying!
