Doing rain dances in Kintore

The long hot weather in Kintore during July has been welcomed by most. But the growing parched look of the grass underlines the side effect - a desperate need for water.

There has been no need to travel to the Med to catch the sun during July. Kintore has enjoyed its own holiday weather with temperatures consistently hitting the mid to upper 20s for most of the month and even peaking at 35C in the shade on a couple of occasions - that's 95F!

Pity anyone who set off on holiday in Spain or Greece, hoping to come home to boast to pale, shivering neighbours of the unrelenting blue skies and hot sun. This year their response would be: "Well you shouldnae hae bothered"!

Kintore scored too on some of the days when the chill sea fog rolled in to Aberdeen. I remember one day when I left the city at 6 pm and it was so dull and murky that the automatic headlights switched on. By the time I got home to Kintore, the sun was shining in a clear blue sky and the temperature was 25C!

Some days it has been almost too hot - certainly for our dog. She has wandered around the house, panting heavily and constantly hunting a non-existant cool spot for a nap.
