Kintore site makes 'silver surfer' very happy
A 'silver surfer' who has been away from Kintore
since 1950 finds that computers and the Kintore site can "make an old man very
happy".
At the tender age of 69 I have in the past looked
upon computers as an invention of the Devil but after much chiding from my wife
and my offspring, who are all computer literate, I am making the effort to be
like
them. So,
sat looking at the screen today I typed in Kintore and to my great
surprise and even greater delight up came your site.
Why did I type Kintore you may ask if
you haven't already fallen asleep?
Although I have lived in England since
1950, I have never forgotten my native heath nor the soil from which I sprang.
My father, Bill Mackie, was born I believe in Annvale Cottage, and I have very
happy memories of visiting my Grandmother and my cousin Gordon Mackie
who spent most of his life in Kintore before moving to
Dunecht. I
was particularly pleased to see that the cricket club still exists since it was
my fathers passion when he was a young man. To my certain knowledge at least
three generations of Mackies played for Kintore ...my father of course, his
uncle called Anton and my cousin Gordon. I've played on the pitch myself as a
boy, and my fathers ashes are scattered there.I will be happy to end up there
myself one day. I've still got his cricket cap somewhere; black and purple
bands and woven on the front 1933... four years before I was born. It's in the
loft somewhere along with some photos of the team from that
time. Clearly
I shall have to revise my opinion of computers, it seems they may have the power
to make an old man very happy...they may even be " such stuff as dreams are made
on " If
you have managed to stay with me this far, thank you for indulging the ramblings
of a boring old
fool Regards
Stewart Mackie
