Re: Controversy over the Langstane development in The Square
An "eyesore" that would "look out
of place anywhere in Aberdeenshire" is how this Kintore resident describes
Langstane's development in The Square.
I agree there is a requirement for
low cost housing in Kintore but they rarely go to local people and LOW COST
Housing is not always as it seems.... as anyone trying to get on the property
market on low income will already know. One low-cost housing organisation
declined my application years ago when I was on a ridiculously low income some
where around £10,000 before TAX. Their response was that I made enough
money to get a mortgage and didn't qualify for low cost housing.
Hello? A mortgage on a
salary of £10,000 per annum? What would I get? A garden shed? Thankfully I
make a lot more now and have been able to get onto the property market.
Then one day someone
agrees to defacing the village square, which many visitors to the village used
to compliment. But now we're left with something which would look out of place
anywhere in
Aberdeenshire.
Don't
get me wrong. I'm all for Kintore developing. But this is not a step in the
right direction. It is a complete eyesore!
They built similar
buildings in Inverurie beside the Police Station and everyone I know said the
same about them "ugly eyesore". They have only been built for a few years
and already they are starting to look tired and run
down.
How
can our local Authority be so out of touch with their people?
You might think I'm some
sad old biddy. But I'm only in my twenties. I have lived in Kintore since I
was in primary
school.
They
built a nice new school which was needed to cope which the ever growing
population and they took away the main play park! So, now, we have lots of kids
without anywhere decent to play (Still waiting for these things to be put back
and further IMPROVEMENTS for a village which near doubled in population but with
less facilities AND higher council tax
(?).
They
are going to knock down school house. WHY?
It could make a nice
TRADITIONAL Family home (in keeping with Kintore) and bring extra money back to
the School or
community.
Its
time for a review and reform of Aberdeenshire Council's policies. NO MORE UGLY
BUILDINGS WITHOUT CONSULTING KINTORE RESIDENTS DIRECTLY IN A TOWN MEETING ON A
DAY THAT WE CAN BE THERE.
Its
funny how the Council can loose things when it pleases them as the recent
newspaper report suggests. "An Aberdeenshire Council spokesman confirmed
Kintore's centre was potentially in line to become a conservation area, but such
status would not be confirmed until later this year following further
discussion. Commenting on the non-reply to the community council's objections,
he said: "Unfortunately, it does appear the matter may have been overlooked or
mislaid."
