Aberdeen is the second most
car-friendly city in the UK, behind Dundee, according to a survey
by Virgin Money.
The company rated 64 towns and cities on various criteria, including cost of fuel, car park spaces, cost of parking for two hours, number of speed cameras, car crime and congestion.
This news will come like a sick joke to anyone who is stuck for half an hour at the Haudagain roundabout every morning and evening, or who is patiently waiting to get past the bridges of Dee or Don.

But, if only we could get these relatively few and absolutely notorious bottlenecks sorted (obviously the Virgin Money people didn't include them on their itinerary) and speed up the traffic light changing sequence, you know, Aberdeen really isn't that bad a place to drive a car!
The paralysis that seems to affect the authorities, when it comes to improving infrastructure for cars, seems to come from the political dogma that says public transport is always more environmentally-friendly than private cars.
Even before the arrival of zero-emission cars, this is simply not the case. Often the car is the more environmentally friendly choice, compared to the bus or the train.
