AYRSHIRE McEWENS AND HUNTERS We have a McEwen in our tree and a Hunter. Barnabas McEwen married Jean Hunter at the Presbyterian Church at Newton-on-Ayr in 1829. This church is just across the river in Ayr. The church records show the banns record. They had a son, James McEwen born in 1830. The church record shows a Janet McEwen in the same record with James, but I have no information on her. James came to America when he was young, in the early 1830's because there is a record for Barnabas in the Enfield, Connecticut history records. I descend from James. I don't have much information on Barnabas except that James birth certificate says Barnabas was born in Ireland(I assume Northern Ireland). I think Barnabas may have been born circa 1805-10. I have no information on Jean Hunter. I assume she was born in Ayrshire (maybe Ayr) and that she may have been born circa 1810-15. I have no record of Jean in the US.
