Club Leadership Plan The structure of Kintore Rotary

Kintore Rotary

Hi. I’m Kenny Thomson. As President of the Rotary Club of Kintore, it is my pleasure to provide an introduction for the Club website and in doing so, explain briefly what we do.

The Club was formed on 19 April 2007 with 23 members. None of us have previous experience of Rotary work and while this may appear to be a drawback, we regard it as a positive feature. Support from other Rotary Clubs in the North East of Scotland has been overwhelming and so we can therefore draw on their combined experiences whilst, as newcomers to the organisation, have the opportunity to be innovative in our own approach to membership, whether this be on the Friendship and Fellowship theme, or in our fundraising effort.

What our members have is a desire and enthusiasm to work towards helping those less fortunate than ourselves at local, national and international level, as part of the largest charitable organisation in the world.

What drew me personally to Rotary was the opportunity to work with other people who also wish to do something worthwhile, whether it be raising money for local causes, working with other Rotary Clubs in the North East on joint and larger fundraising Projects, or forging links and providing much needed financial support through fundraising, to Rotary International colleagues working in countries where the basic human needs of shelter, food, water and medication are scarce.

It has become increasing clear to me that membership of our Club and its involvement in fundraising activities, also has the potential for fun. The Rotary organisation has of course a long and well publicised history of popular and successful social events.

There are real opportunities in our organisation to improve the lives of others. Individually, we may merely sympathise with the plight of others, but collectively and as part of a huge organisation, we can make a real difference. Come along to one of our Weekly Meetings and see how you can utilise your enthusiasm and skills for the good of others – you’d be made very welcome by our members.

KENNY THOMSON
