Aberdeenshire Council meeting about roads
Representatives of Kintore and District Community met with Ian Rendall of the Roads Dept at Aberdeenshire Council, on Friday 22 January 2010
Kintore / Hatton of Fintray road – flooding. Is it possible to get permanent signing, similar to that which is on the Lecht, to advise motorists of Road Closed Ahead. Flashing amber lights / Automatic signs. Danger there and possible Council liability if accident occurred.
Mr Rendall “I have referred the matter to our Flood Prevention Unit. The Unit is about to review the Flood Emergency Plan document and will consider the matter at that time.
Automated signage is a great idea…Someone should develop and patent it!!

The B977 from Kintore to Hatton of Fintray was flooded at least three times last year.
Wheelchair access on the slope leading from Henderson Crescent to the old Library site. Currently paved. A woman slipped and broke her ankle there last year and it was brought to Council attention then.
From Mr Rendall “When the path was designed a straight gradient would have been considered but because of the level difference between the two streets it would have been too steep. Consequently steps have been introduced to provide platforms.
Nowadays any new work on paths has to comply with the Disability Discrimination Act which has rigorous specifications regarding the design and it is unlikely that the requirements can be accommodated. However, I will have it checked out and advise you of the outcome”.
The Royal Burgh of Kintore sign, as you enter from the Inverurie side is hidden. The matter was raised by Mr Rendall. Progress?
From Mr Rendall “I have asked one of our Engineers to organise the relocating of the sign into the road verge, clear of the hedge. I recall in the past, members of a Heritage Society taking the sign down and re-painting it. They may wish to do so again”.
The slip road into Kintore off the dual carriageway. Too open an aspect and it is very difficult to see exactly where the slip road and its edges are: in the dark, when foggy and especially when the first snowfalls come. White posts with red reflectors, positioned on the left side of the slip road, would be a solution. It is appreciated this is a matter for Bear Scotland. Can KDCC have a contact name / Tel. No
From Mr Rendall “I contacted BEAR today but was directed to voice mail I will advise you of their response asap and hopefully before Tuesday (16/2/10). [Contact details were passed to KDCC]
The traffic management measures through Kintore seem to be working well, now that motorists have got used to them, but there are still reports of vehicles hitting the extended kerbs. The black bollards have reflective white bands on them, but they need cleaning, to be more visible. Is this routine maintenance or would a special effort be required to do this job?
From Mr Rendall – “We do not have a routine maintenance programme for the cleaning of street furniture but I have been in contact with our Waste Services Unit with regard to the employment of Village Orderlies during the summer months. They will add the cleaning of the bollards and signs to the list of duties required for Kintore”.
