Kintore & District Community Council CLICK HERE FOR COMMUNITY COUNCIL MINUTES Community Councils are voluntary and unpaid bodies that exist within a statutory framework and that have been granted statutory rights of consultation. The general purpose of a community council is to ascertain and express the views of the community. Community councils are non-party political and non-sectarian.
Historic Kintore Town House where the Kintore & District Community Council meets once a month. The recommended numerical composition of Kintore Community Council is nine. However, given the rapid and continuing population expansion, the present Community Council agreed that this could rise to ten. In the event that the number of nominations exceeds this number, an election will be held. Once the membership has been determined, by election or otherwise, the Annual General meeting will be held. Office bearers, Chairman, vice Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer will be elected. More information can be obtained from the Scheme for the Establishment of Community Councils accessible via the Aberdeenshire Council website www.aberdeenshire.gov.uk or from the Kintore website www.kintore.org.uk. Since the seeds were sown ten years ago for major housing development in Kintore, the Community Council has consistently pressed for improved community facilities to match the population growth. Support has been sought and obtained from other local organisations, in particular local sports teams, the Church, the School Board and the PTA. It must be remembered, however, that the Community Council has no power to “make it happen”, it can only represent local opinion to the powers that be. The Community Council was directly responsible for preventing the demolition by a housing developer of Bridgend, formerly Bridgealehouse at the northern end of the Burgh. This was achieved by researching and presenting the long history of the establishment, involving Robert the Bruce, the Baillies of Kintore and much more to Historic Scotland as a result of which the property was listed. More recently the Community Council has made representations to Grampian Police and to local off-licenses about anti-social behaviour and under age drinking. It is strongly supporting work by the Action Kintore group towards providing facilities and amenities for the youth of the Burgh. For more than a year it has been pressing for the site of the old library to be given over for community facilities. A response from Aberdeenshire Council is still awaited. The Community Council has organised bonfire nights and firework displays, annual senior citizens outings, flower baskets, garden competitions, Christmas decorations and much more. The Community Council meets every third Monday of the month in the Town House. Download and print the nomination form in either RTF or PDF format (click the link below). Forms are also available from the Post Office and Kintore Library . Your ompleted forms with names of proposer and seconder should be returned to Ken Brown no later than 8 September.
